Recently Quantas had a spade of incidents with their jets. One of which had parts of its engines fall over Bataam lsland ….very near to Singapore [actually but by the grace of God no one got injured – had it been Singapore, being such an urban populous…..hmmm]
The jet had to circle around a bit to dump fuel … standard practice for emergency landing…also dumped it upon the not so populated Bataam Island.
That got me thinking about the necessary act of ‘dumping’…when life offers us an unexpected such as:
- the passengers in a flight that has problem
- survivors stranded on a mountain top
- person who just discovered the presence of cancer
- person who lost everything in a tsunami
- a person running for his life, away from war
Or when we want to excel against the odds such as:
- a runner who wants to complete the long distance marathon
- a quadriplegic who dances with his hands
- a painter who paints with his mouth
- a person who is climbing Mt Everest without oxygen
In all of these circumstances, the 1st thing people have to do is dump the unnecessary ie baggages / weight.
Reason is simple……success is compromised if we let the weight of the past; of things; of emotions; etc weigh us down.
Do we want to wait till a tragedy to do it? Hopefully common senses prevails….
