Making people feel good is a futile effort. It is like putting money in a sinking ship, never to be seen again till it is salvaged.
‘Feel good’ is a fleeting emotion and often forgotten when other stronger emotions overwhelm; typically it sits only on short term memory, quick to disappear when joy, anger, bitterness, jealously, misunderstanding happen. Hence, we find many who remember all the wrongs but few who remember the good. Gratitude, is almost a lost virtue.
Within the business environment, i do not place priority in making people feel good. I believe in fair practice, justice and integrity. I believe in common good of all, rather than an individual’s benefit. I believe that my responsibility, as a business person, is to accomplish the goal in front of me and in the process deliver the promise to clients and staff, ie all stakeholders. I believe in ‘tough love’ ie choosing, if necessary, to hurt a person to prevent an eventual harm. That makes me hugely unpopular.
I rather sow seeds that last beyond the generation, if possible ie through life lessons.
