We live in days where honesty and integrity are passe……… old fashion / outdated.
Yet, without doubt, bosses are looking for people whom they can trust to manage sensitive data, financial responsibilities, protect trade secrets, etc. This pool of people is shrinking by the year. In fact, such values are hardly entrenched in families and schools in today’s achievement oriented societies.
I am seeing a big challenge in the making in the workforce. More in the older generations are retiring, and more in the younger generation who see ‘honesty’ and ‘integrity’ as words to be used like dressings would be used for the salad, are entering the workforce and assuming position of influence.
Integrity has become a poorly defined word as is with honesty. There are many who see themselves as being honest and yet would use company time to do personal things or have no qualms not being productive during office hours. There are those whose words are seasonal meaning the words change according to the circumstances, praises one moment, criticism another like a snowstorm in the middle of late spring. Yes may not mean yes and communication is full of innuendos.
So much effort has gone into saving whales, koalas, insects and other disappearing species. However, few seem to care if honesty and integrity need to be preserved before extinctions take over.
