I returned, after being away for a month, to ‘perfect’ weather, ‘perfect’ order, ‘perfect’ roads, ‘perfect’ airport in Singapore….
Is perfection the ultimate? What is that standard? What price are we willing to pay to get that standard..
Is Singapore utopia?
As i sat and had my lunch at a nearby hawker centre…, savouring the local dishes I missed being gone for 1 month to India, I looked at the stalls around. One of my favourite ones, run by a lady from China and her sister, actually shifted to a bigger size stall and had the President’s photo awarding for environmental cleanliness.
As a provider of food, it is a business of absolute trust. I assume I am eating clean food. One of the clear mark of S’pore is quality. So much so:
- some countries allow us to travel on one way ticket b’cos they know S’poreans want to go ‘home’
- people prefer to shop in S’pore for electronic goods, though not the cheapest b’cos of assurance of quality
- people give high priority to hire S’pore nurses and teachers b’cos of assured quality mindset
- people want to come to S’pore b’cos they know this is one of the few nations in Asia where corruption is minimal
Quality = TRUST. Minus Trust, there is no lasting business transactions….
Trust must be absolute…else there is none.
