I have observed extensively, as Aunty, about how children use their emotion, will power and manipulation to get their way. Most are very dramatic, ie with emotionally charged outbursts, leaving parents completely at their mercy.
In the last few days, I had observed a different scenario with a kid whose Daddy is a friend of mine, who paid me a visit in Singapore. This is a first time for me to witness such a different scenario and my mind is completely fascinated by it.
The young boy was very clear what he wanted, and he did not forget …a strong willed behaviour …he reminded me every ten minutes that he wanted his balloon. He repeatedly asked every 5-10 minutes and maybe with about half hour in between when he was distracted, he continued to ask. What is interesting is that he was persistent [strong willed, I would say] but he was not emotional. He had a couple of grunts, whined somewhat, but there was no long and drawn battles. He did not throw any tantrums [complete praises to the parents].
That got me thinking that strong will is not directly linked to temper ie one can be strong willed without throwing a fit. That is a precious discovery for me….
I am happy to be surprised by this…
