Hahahaha….
A Chinese name? Wrong! Nope not a French term……
I was thinking of the wave of interest in talent management and a project I am working on.
There is a poor understanding of the use and the power of objectives. I strongly content that in the learning industry, those who can write great functional objective are rare and they should be considered like the delicate truffle or air traffic controllers.
That, to me is a big differentiator. Yet few can write good objectives and all too often it is just mechanical, a plastic ornamental flower at the dinner table, a good piece for the table setting. If there is someone in the team who can be the ‘expert’ at crafting learning objectives, the entire project outcome would instantly rise a tempo or notches.
So what is objective? Hence I thought of the term, statement of intent [SOI]. The statement of intent clearly marks out an understanding by all parties and in a sense creates the transparency and common connection.
Then one can measure the accomplishment of intent ie MOI. Once the intent is clear and transparent, it can be tracked and analysed. Remedial actions can be taken to keep the intent on course.
Of course we all know ROI. To measure ROI, SOI and MOI are necessary precursors – the triplet in relational sequence.
SOI MOI ROI – got it?
