While considering a thought at church, I realised that to be able to go before God is not conditioned upon my being ‘perfect’, being at my best, or that all things must be in good order….
Rather it is about surrendering to the Almighty which means emptying…So the less I am, in terms of the fullness of me, the faster I can empty of myself before my creator [like the dumping of fuel by an airplane to lessen its weight while trying to land].
Emptying becomes difficult when I am full. And unless I am empty, I cannot fill up with the goodness and glory of God. There is no point in having a full fuel tank filled with oil and vinegar mixture. The tank might be full, but its content is of no value. Then won’t it be better to be at the source with an empty tank, filling up with the real stuff – goodness - till overflowing?
So, I am now fully challenged to daily become less of me – will be a rocky road because I know I will find myself full of self some days!
The Chinese character for ‘righteousness’ is made up of 2 parts, one over the other. The upper part is the character for ‘lamb’ and the lower character is ‘I’. Interestingly, it describes the tenets of righteousness in the Bible. Jesus, the lamb, over me, is my righteousness.
Please hold me accountable, whenever you find that I am full of self!
