There is so much buzz around talent management now and yet the people in Performance Engineering world like the recognised ‘father’ in this discipline - Thomas Gilbert – had been singing this song for many years. Wikipedia has this written about him:
Thomas F. Gilbert (1926 – 1994) was a psychologist who is often known as the founder of the field of human performance technology, also known as Human Performance Technology. Gilbert himself coined and used the term Performance Engineering. Gilbert applied his understanding of behavioural psychology to improve human performance at work and at school. He is best known for his book Human Competence: Engineering Worthy Performance. Gilbert devised HPT when he realized that formal learning programs often only brought about a change in knowledge, not a change in behaviour. Other techniques were needed to bring about a lasting change in behaviour.
The new is merely telling more of the old…So finally, what’s new?
