Individualism and relativism, a potent pair - updated

Take a look at those who are active contributors to society whether in service or in donations. And then take a look at those who destroy communities or those who alienate themselves from communities.

I believe a very clear profile would surface. [sorry, profiling seems to be a bad word these days]

When Individualism and Relativism come together, it is like mixing acids and bases (alkalis) such as ammonia and bleach.

Like a potent cocktail, there is little room for tolerance when transacting spaces collide.

To accept that all is correct [relativism], so nothing is wrong……Then it is saying the reverse is wrong, duh!

Relativism has no paradigm for ‘wrong’ since it is ‘to each his own’ – very enlightened precept!

On the other hand, individualism, to the degree of narcissism, make common space difficult to navigate. When countries take on a ‘don’t tell me what to do’ and ‘we will do what we like’ including oppression of its citizens, killing the innocents by using them as human shields, using / manipulating their own citizens to accomplish ideology agendas, there is no common space for the international community.

Similarly, when an individual chooses to isolate, chase after ideology that divides and destroys, where is the common space with fellow human beings?

Then relativism explains that such individuals must decide what is best for them because what is right for them is right for them because to say ‘wrong’ is not acceptable in the doctrines of relativism. So, we can only have intellectual commentary after the acts of violence have been committed.

Even then we must be especially ‘politically correct’ when commenting on acts of violence and destruction [inclusive of killing babies in the name of convenience, liberty, and personal agendas] making sure we do not step on sensitivities.

The world is horrified by the destructions caused by physical landmines and much publicity, effort and money have been [rightfully] poured into destroying these landmines.

Ironically, there are so many psychological landmines, emotional landmines and ideological landmines planted across the globe, where fear is now driving nations with deep history to change their nationhood, their national identity, their heritage which they should be proud of and sadly, to deny their history.

If there is such a thing, founding fathers would be turning in their graves.

We, Singaporeans, know better than to deny our history, heritage or how we started as a tiny fishing village and come such as long way to be today’s shining star. While we invite new citizens from the world, we must not forget where we came from and we must not change our identify to accommodate the sensitivity of the few.

My home is always open for guests. I have had guest who stayed as long as 6 months. Even when a guest chooses to rent a room, there is only so much a guest / rentee can do - like dictate how I should run my household. The moment they insist that i have to re-arrange my furniture, change my daily schedule, tell me what I can or cannot do, in my own home, I will show them the door.

Countries have founders and families have ancestry – their history should never be denied.

Quotations:

God starts us out on a life course to fulfill a certain purpose and then, only when we are ready, He gives us course corrections. Like a good river pilot, He steers us away from troubled waters, and like a good coach, He never puts us in the game until we are ready. The journey is never boring.

REMEMBER THIS ABOUT YOU...

Read this out loud to yourself, and mean it!!

I am precious, valuable, lovable and capable.
The world will not be the same without me.
I make a difference in this world, in the community I live in.
I can make another person smile.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I sing for I am loved by a great God whose nature is to give  love, mercy and grace.

  [In Hindi]
  Mai amulya hoon.
Yeh duniya mayray bina wahi nahin rahegi.
Mayray hone say is duniya mein kuch badlav hai.
Mujh se doosre ke chahre pay muskuraahat aati hai.
Mujhe bhayankar se banaya gaya hai.
Mujhe gaana hai ki ek mahaan; ishwhar mujhe pyaar karte.
Hain aur mayray prati daya dikhaate hain.
