One of the first words that toddlers effectively use to communicate their intent is ‘no’. [especially for strong willed child]
Where did they learn this word?
Often, people tend to link the ability to say ‘no’ to the child’s growing phase. Actually, the word ‘no’ would have been repeated in the toddler’s earlier months way before when he / she could not make sense of what the 2-letter word means.
‘No no no no no no no, don’t touch that!’, ‘No, no no no no no no, don’t go there!’, ‘No no no no no no, don’t eat that!’ Adults are the culprit! We are the ones who introduced the word and made it effective for them.
No wonder, it is hard to get them to stop by the time they figure out what it actually means.
Adults need to remember that any arsenal that little kids use can typically trace back to the parents or persons of influence in their life.
Parenting is a lot more than just befriending time. Most parents do not have time – a critical ingredient to strategise, scenario plan, observe and groom…..
