Set your mind to turn every negative event or experience into a ‘fertiliser’ for your personal growth or into an ‘investment’ for your future potential.
This has to be a determination set deep in our minds before the event / experience arises. Remind ourselves everyday that there is value to harnessed out of everything, including those that cause us depression, anger, sadness, frustration etc.
This is not about positive thinking nor the airy fairy nonsense. It is accepting that each one of us will have to go through tough times – physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual ones – and letting good come out of them. Yes, good can come out of bad – that is the triumph.
There is therefore no room for depression or roller coaster emotions. External events should not set our emotion-o-meter. We control it like we do an air conditioner. Interestingly, it is called ‘conditioner’.
We must be able to detect how out of whack a particular emotion is and ‘use the remote control to regulate the emotion back to ‘normal’.
Our body uses various physiological mechanisms to maintain equilibrium within [temperature, chemicals etc]. So, too, we can consciously use mechanisms to regulate our external responses [physical, emotional] to the undesirable situations.
It is easy to let the emotions go – everybody can. But it takes constant practise and a big heart to restraint. Stay in charge of your response – be the head, not the tail – when responding to external events / experiences.
Notice it is about changing ourselves, not the situation or the other person[s].
