The more I observe and reflect throughout my years of work experience, life experience, etc., I am convinced that true learning only occurs when on the job. Only when short term memory [classroom experiences] gets rehearsed into working memory [experiential learning / OJT] and over a period of time to build fluency [long term memory], can learning be truly said to have occurred.
Classroom, online lessons– be it facilitated or self paced – only offer information and knowledge [Bloom’s lowest level of cognitive learning]. Knowledge management – the buzzword and overhyped concept – therefore is just that. Knowledge is just a organised set of information, given some context. Knowledge is an ingredient to learning but acquiring knowledge does not equate learning.
