Long before the term ‘Outsourcing’ became fashionable and then a negative term, mankind has been relegating responsibilities…
The Imperial families had nannies to raise their children and teachers to teach wisdom; the tribal communities raise their children together where the ladies in the community function as care givers as and when the situation calls for.
Even within our own shore, not too long ago, grandmas and aunties helped raise the children. They still do.
The above are positive examples and where mutualism worked.
In today’s context, earning money / achieving a life’s dream etc have taken up much of the parent’s time. They relegate the impartation of values to people they don’t know – maids, schools, agencies, friends, etc.
A recent controversy in Singapore got me thinking. If parents take the time to consciously plan, with the help of the divine, to share the basics of life with their children even at a younger age – using scenes in normal every day life, the concerns could be less. The controversy is over sex education. Actually, other concerns - violence, substance abuse, gambling, etc - are just as challenging.
Kids up to 10-ish are still quite open to their parents [with exceptions, I know] and while that channel of influence is still open, parents should be optimising the opportunities – using books, selected animal documentaries, or through a walk in the park – to instill the blue-print of value-centric life.
Once blue-prints of life are deeply embedded by constant conditioning, by the time they reach teenage period, they are able to differentiate what is right and wrong. When those who promote alternative lifestyles approach the teenager, we can be confident that his / her inner voice will be there to convict.
Without the blue print, teenagers, during their rite of passage and hormonal adjustment, will fall prey to those who have an agenda to lead them to alternative lifestyle ie practices that lead to suicide, disease, and much distress later in life.
It should be no surprise to us that there are groups out there who do not care about your child, but push their political and social agenda and will use your child to accomplish their goal.
Do you really think that the lobby groups for alternative lifestyles are thinking of your child and his / her future, health, and well-being? They don’t even know your child. They only know their ‘cause’.
Parents, only you can prevent your child from such scary agendas. Schools cannot, religious organisations cannot. Most definitely Government cannot.
